Eastern National Managers Head “Back to Base Camp”
Over the winter, EN hosted a multi-day, interactive training in Orlando for field managers and staff who work directly with our store operations. The theme of the training—Back to Base Camp—was reflected in sessions that encouraged attendees to think broadly about EN’s strategic plan and consider the role of field management in achieving company-wide goals.
The training team delivered professional development in the areas of workforce planning, customer service, merchandising, inventory replenishment, use of new technology, and strategic partnership. Participants attended sessions that addressed how Eastern National’s larger organizational shifts affect the way that we do business in the field. Highlights included practical tips for recruiting, an overview of DO-32 and Scope of Sales statements for newer managers, and “fireside chats” about our America’s National Parks rebranding efforts. Back to Base Camp was the largest gathering of Eastern National staff in over a decade, and the knowledge sharing and learning opportunities mobilized our team to be ready for the next leg of our journey.
The training was well received by attendees, who appreciated the focus on foundational knowledge and skills. “I feel I know the big picture [of] why, how, what, when, and where!” reports one manager. “I always want to know the root of the challenge and work my way from there.”
