Exciting News From The Outer Banks

Nov 15, 2025

We have some exciting news to share from the Outer Banks! Outer Banks Forever (OBXF) recently received a $50,000 Capacity Building Grant from the National Park Foundation to expand and strengthen our OBXF brand awareness and donor engagement initiatives. This is in addition to the previous $50,000 grant awarded in July as part of the National Park Foundation’s Collective Campaign!

Outer Banks Forever was awarded a Partner Housing Catalyst Grant of $75,000 from the National Park Foundation for a planning and design project that will create eight RV sites at Wright Brothers National Memorial. These RV sites will allow the OBX Group of the National Park Service to accommodate more seasonal volunteers and rangers who travel around the country in their RVs to work at national parks.

Outer Banks Forever’s annual Adopt A Sea Turtle Nest program has experienced another successful year, with all 213 active nests adopted and more than $26,700 raised to protect and enhance Cape Hatteras National Seashore! Outer Banks Forever’s Adopt A Pony program is also thriving, with 82% of their $20,000 fundraising goal achieved.

OBXF is in the process of final plans to support the repair to the Double Keeper’s Quarters at Bodie Island, which was damaged by a fire in January. Thanks to the quick action of the NPS and EN employees on site and the quick response of the local fire department, the fire damage was less than it could have been. OBXF has been busy planning for America’s 250th celebration at Wright Brothers National Memorial, as well as heading up a committee with local stakeholders to plan for the 125th anniversary of powered flight.

A big congratulations to the Outer Banks Forever team on these grant awards and program successes! To keep up with all of Outer Banks Forever’s news, you can sign up for their e-newsletter here.
