The month of March came in like a lion and out like a lamb. Visitation to parks picked up during the month as warmer, spring weather made its way through the east. March sales were $1.6 million, well above our projections. Our stores at Cape Hatteras NS, Minuteman Missile NHP, Sleeping Bear Dunes NL, Homestead NHP of America, and Congaree NP had the strongest year-over-year performance. It’s too early to tell if this is a short-term bump in visitation or sustained increase in travel.
As of early April, more than 100 million in the United States have received at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine and the daily vaccination rate now exceeds 3 million. This is positive news for the travel and tourism industry and for Eastern National. We’re cautiously optimistic that travel will continue to increase in 2021 as more people are vaccinated. With the administration’s goal to expand vaccine eligibility to all U.S. adults by April 19, we look forward to most Eastern National stores reopening this spring and a return to prior revenue levels.
