In Memoriam: Gary & Nancy Everhardt
The Eastern National family is saddened by the recent passing of Gary and Nancy Everhardt. Gary committed his career to national parks, notably serving as the ninth director of the National Park Service and spending more than two decades as superintendent of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Nancy was by his side the entire time, sharing Gary’s dedication to the parks equally. Shortly after his retirement Gary joined the Eastern National board of directors, where he served from 2001 – 2006, including as vice chair in 2006. Fellow EN board member, friend, and succeeding Blue Ridge Superintendent Dan Brown remembers both Gary and Nancy as champions for our national parks:
“They were dedicated employees and partners who cared for and protected the parks every day. The entire National Park Service and Eastern National family will miss Gary and his demeanor, influence and style, and the professionalism he brought to the Service during and following his distinguished career.”
