Highland Lighthouse Tours Resume for 2019 Season

Visitors to Cape Cod National Seashore will once again be able to climb the 69 steps to the top of Highland Lighthouse in 2019. A rehabilitation project was initially projected to cause the lighthouse’s closure for the duration of the season, which runs from April through mid-October.

Cape Cod National Seashore Superintendent Brian Carlstrom explained in an NPS statement that as the scope of work on Highland Light became clear, the park was able to shift its plans for the benefit of visitors. “Since we know the contract won’t involve on-site work until after the height of the visitation season, it makes sense to keep the tower open and tours operating for as long as possible,” said Supt. Carlstrom.

Guided tours of the lighthouse are operated by Eastern National, as well as the park store (known as the “Keeper’s Shop”). Proceeds are returned to Cape Cod National Seashore to help support educational and interpretive programs. Tours are being offered on a limited schedule through May 10, at which point daily lighthouse climbs will resume until the on-site rehabilitation project begins. Visit the Highland Light website for a full schedule and to plan your visit.
